Pink Flamingo! January 19 2015, 0 Comments

It’s hard not to smile when you see an image of a flamingo. They immediately lift your mood. Flamingos’ bright pink color is a result of the variety of different shades of feathers. Their unique color influenced our Flamingo Cocktail Napkins and Flamingo Charms. Who doesn’t need a little reminder of the tropics in this cold windy weather?

Sophia 203 for ecru Cocktail Napkins are available for sale here and at AlOthman

Take Me to the Grove, The Coconut Grove November 05 2014, 0 Comments

Glitz, glamour, and a club filled with palms! That was the Coconut Grove Club of the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angles.  In it’s heyday, from the 1920s to the 1960s, it was frequented by Hollywood’s who’s who of the time.

The Coconut Grove club opened in 1921.  At the beginning it was too small to fit the country club crowd and the wilder Hollywood crowd, so it converted to a thousand seat club.  The LA hot spot was born with many fabulous parties.

What's not to love about a dinner club with papier mache palm trees, high ceilings lit with stars, and the biggest and best jazz bands playing music.

ecru's Soundtrack, Marilyn Monroe's Heat Wave July 16 2014, 0 Comments

It's sweltering outside and we are definitely experiencing a heat wave, an extended one.  If that's the case, we don't mind Marilyn's tropical "Heat Wave".

ecru's Soundtrack, Tamba Trio's Mas Que Nada June 24 2014, 0 Comments

Everyone's eyes are on Brazil at the moment, but we've been dreaming of Rio for a while now.  So a little samba has been playing in the background lately, especially Tamaba Trio's "Mas Que Nada".

A Taste From The Tropics June 16 2014, 0 Comments

Nothing tastes more tropical than coconut and pineapple.  In this sweltering heat, I just want to cool down with something freezing and delicious. I cannot wait to try this Pineapple Flurry and Coconut Chia Pudding to help me escape the heat.

Ingredients:

18 ounces of fresh pineapple juice

1 cup of coconut milk

1 cup of plain strained yogurt (or substitute with almond milk or coconut water)

1/3 cup of chia seeds

honey to taste, about 2 tablespoons (or other sweetener)

Directions:

Pour pineapple juice into a shallow pan. Freeze for about one hour. Scrape ice crystals forming on the edges of the pan to the center. Repeat every hour until icy and flaky, about 4/5 hours.

Stir yogurt, coconut milk and honey in a bowl to combine. Add chia seeds. Let sit at room temperature for at least 3 hours.

To assemble, place chia seed pudding at the bottom of a cup and add pineapple flurries to the top.

Ocean Blues June 04 2014, 0 Comments

It’s no surprise that we are so moved by the ocean and it’s creatures at ecru.  This season our ode to the sea is our barracuda print.  With three different shades of blue stripes, it is reminiscent of the different colors of the ocean as it reflects the sky.  There is nothing more calming than losing yourself in the endless ocean horizon.

Fly Me Down To Rio May 14 2014, 0 Comments

Sometimes not only do we want to escape to a far away exotic destination, but we want to time travel to a specific time in that particular place. That’s how we feel about Rio. Don’t get us wrong we’d love to get the chance to catch the next plane to Rio, yet we would have loved to go there in the 1950's and 1960's. Whether it be travel posters or images of Impanema beach, we cannot stop dreaming of vintage Rio.

Tropical Moonlight May 12 2014, 0 Comments

We are always inspired by palms.  Last year our Palm print was a take on the palm leaf.  This year, since we went to the tropics, we had to add the coconut palm as part of our prints.  The Moon Palm print is an ode to long balmy nights under a tropical moonlight listening to Latin beats sipping on a fruity drink.  As a symbol of a tropical island paradise, we had to use the coconut palm in our latest “Take me to the Tropics” collection

Take me to the Tropics Pop Up Shop May 08 2014, 0 Comments

Last week we took Kuwait to the tropics, with the launch of our Summer 2014 “Take me to the Tropics” collection at Dar Al Funoon.  “Take me to the Tropics” is a collection inspired by the 1930s fascination for the Tropics, the discovery of exotic lands by propeller plane, multicolored fruits and jewel toned birds. This collection is an infusion of color, heat and romance that will transport you to balmy tropical escapes.  The Pop-Up shop at Dar Al Funoon previewed ecru’s Summer 2014 latest collection of block printed textiles, handmade table accessories, handwoven cotton rugs, marble bowls and plates, brass light fixtures and resort clothing line ‘noon for ecru’.  The new collection will be available online and in our boutique at AlOthman soon.
