Color Block March 28 2018, 0 Comments

Color Block

I recently stumbled on these photos on Pinterest and was absolutely mesmerized by these buildings.  These color blocked buildings in Tiruvannamalai in Tamil Nadu, India are wonderful.  India is known for its vibrancy of color, but these buildings are something else.  All these color blocked buildings are domestic buildings.  How fun would it be to live in a candy house?

Luis Barragan

I recently stumbled on Luis Barragán's house on the internet and was quite mesmerized by it.  The Mexican architect and engineer was influenced by Le Corbusier and European Modernism.  His buildings are an ode to the modernist movement.  Clearly, his beautiful house is also an ode to the simple lines of modernism.

Clay Walls

Mud houses are charming.  These beautiful houses with clay walls are so inspiring.  Makes me dream of a summer house by the beach.

Cave Living September 06 2016, 0 Comments

Living in a cave is not an ideal situation.  However, if they looked like any of these rooms, I'd jump on the chance to move into these fabulous caves.  So bright and airy, giving any person that would want to live there a natural and carefree lifestyle.  Hopefully, I'll move into one of these caves next to the Mediterranean Sea.  Every morning I'd wake up from my cave room and walk down for a dip.

Roaring Fireplace December 11 2013, 0 Comments

The temperature has dropped and the weather has become dramatically colder.   Which means it’s time to cozy up indoors with hot coco or some chai in front of the fire.

There’s something endearing about a fireplace.   You get to enjoy the heat indoors with the family, cuddling under a quilt.   Here are some beautiful fireplaces, both modern and rustic, that capture the  perfect winter mood.

Seeing Stars October 30 2013, 0 Comments

Looking up at the stars makes us dream of something celestial.  They keep us optimistic for something new.  We are not only influenced by the stars in the sky, but the geometric shape of the star as well.

The Heart of the Home August 07 2013, 0 Comments

All the energy of the house is dictated by what is happening in the kitchen.  Sometimes people forgo the comfort of a couch when visiting friends to hover around the host while they are preparing a meal.  The best kitchens are the rustic ones that make you feel you are inside “the heart of the home”.

We love kitchens here at ecru, because it’s where all our meals are being made.  Especially when  a cake is being baked in the oven and the whole house smells divine.

Surreal Minimalism July 22 2013, 0 Comments

“A house like me” is the description Curzio Malaparte used to describe the house he built for himself, with the help of Adolfo Amitrano, on a remote cliff in Capri.  Cruzio decided to build Casa Malaparte in seclusion after his return from exile, because he wanted more privacy.

The red masonry box of a house is on a cliff thirty two meters above the sea overlooking the beautiful Gulf of Salerno.  What makes this minimalist house so surreal, is how the house has become part of the nature that surrounds it.

Casa Malaparte became famous in 1963 when Jean- Luc Godard shot his film “Contempt”.  Today the house can be accessed by sea or through the steep stairs.  Once reaching the house, many visitors are overwhelmed by the location and are mesmerized by its "dream-like" quality.

Take A Dip May 29 2013, 0 Comments

Swimming in the sea is exhilarating especially the feeling of salt all over your body after a dip.  However, sometimes you need to balance out the invigorating energy of the sea by dipping into a nice cool pool afterwards.

Swimming pools create a certain serenity in the home and add the perfect element to a garden.  As the temperature is rising we have been inspired by beautifully designed pools and the spaces that surround them.

These pools not only make you want to take a nice relaxing swim, they also invite you to unwind with friends as you lounge by the pool...
