Africa Prints February 03 2016, 0 Comments

While working on the "Africa" collection a lot of research went to create the prints for the textiles in the collection.  Weaving has many spiritual meanings to many African tribes, for some it is an analogy to human reproduction and resurrection. Today for many tribes there is still cultural significance in the weaves and prints used in their textiles.  We used much of this information as inspiration while producing the blocks and picking the colors for our table linens.

You can find our "Africa" collection on sale here.

The Sleepy Giraffe November 02 2015, 0 Comments

The giraffe is really an inspiration, with it's long elegant neck.  For the "Africa" collection we could not help but using the giraffe in on a variety of products.  My personal favorites are the beautiful navy gift tags done for us by Modest Genius.

Top: Giraffe Mask

Middle Top: Giraffe Gift Tag Pack

Bottom Middle: Sleepy Giraffes Printed Pouch

Bottom: Pink Sleepy Giraffes Storage Bucket

All About the Brass October 26 2015, 0 Comments

I absolutely love brass products.  As a lover of vintage, I get really excited when ecru produces brass objects as they have this antique quality.  For the "Africa" collection a menagerie of brass creatures were created.  Here are the favorites.

Top: Cheetah Bowl

Bottom Left: Fish Lamp

Bottom Right: Elephant Tray

Striped in Black October 21 2015, 0 Comments

There's something quite chic about stripes, especially black stripes on a white background.  I love when nature creates these stripes, such as when palms cast shadows on walls.

We made our stripes from the "Africa" collection in black for fall.  The print will be available on our Robe and Lounge Dress.

Black Striped Robe will be available Online and AlOthman beginning of November.

I’ve always dreamt of going on a safari and getting to look at all the majestic African wildlife. This dream has lead me on an obsess search of safari lodges. Located in isolated rural areas, to give you a feel of the wildlife. Here are some lodges from all over Africa that I would love to jet away to right now.

Turquoise Blue March 31 2015, 0 Comments

Between blue and green, turquoise is a color that adds a sense of tranquility and coolness against the African dessert. While researching images for the upcoming “Africa” collection, I kept stumbling on images of houses and women wrapped in turquoise. The color is throughout the collection, in various tints of it. We used light turquoise in the Little One’s prints, and in its deeper shades we used for the table linens and cushions.

Stay tuned for the final products…

Sydou Keita's Formal Intimacy March 11 2015, 0 Comments

We have a thing for Malian portrait photographers.   Last year our fascination was Malick Sidibe’s shots, and this year Seydou Keita influenced noon for ecru’s look book. Kieta started taking pictures at 14 years old when his uncle gave him a Kodak Brownie. During this time he was able to master technical challenges of shooting and printing. In 1948 at 27 years old he opened his studio that he furnished with a lot of props such as printed backdrops, cars, vespas, and costumes.   Keita’s aim was to bring out the exceptional beauty of his subjects. He worked until he retired in 1977, and he has an extensive archive of negatives. His intimate portraits are the images that influenced noon’s latest look book.

The Conch February 16 2015, 0 Comments

Have you ever walked on the beach and stumbled on a beautiful shell? Whenever I do it’s usually a conch. With it’s unique shape and different shades it easily catches the eye. For the latest collection, ecru developed a conch print.  It reminds of the shell jewelry I used to make as a kid after I collected a bucket of small conches.

Wild Landscapes January 28 2015, 0 Comments

A while back Nur sent me beautiful aerial images of Botswana Savannah taken by Zack Seckler. It was at the beginning of the research for our upcoming collection, inspired by Africa. When doing a collection on Africa it’s hard to avoid the mesmerizing wildlife and landscapes. That’s where Seckler’s photographs come in. He captures both in a striking way.
